That Forlorn Smile

It was a gloomy morn, instilling inertia into my somnolent body.
Driven by the obligation of job, responsibility and its endless travail,
I hurriedly reached my workplace, with fast-shrinking enthusiasm,
As I stepped into the entrance, there was rush and flux of priority.

Regular greetings from the reception, and the sight of wide smiles,
It was a different world altogether, unaware of the cheerless sky.
I looked at my watch, and as always, I discovered myself to be late,
And I increased my pace, refueled my drowsy legs, I took my stride.

Then came a sudden pause, a sudden flash of glittering light…
Time now ticked leisurely, as I raised my eyes at the incandescence…
It was her, walking slowly; her eyes hiding behind the shy eye-lids.
Her silky hair somehow flew behind, against some incognito winds.

She looked like a forgotten angel, with glowing fairness and glossy lips.
Everything else zoomed out of my vision, it was only her somehow.
My eyes just stuck on her pretty face, my hurried footsteps had frozen.
It was like she had ceased the flow of time, it ticked microseconds now.

She lifted her face; swayed back her long locks behind to the other side.
She was now looking into my eyes; her eyelids could no more hide ‘em.
They were once white and brown, now seemed moist and only scarlet.
She removed a stranded hair from her lips; her eyes still looking into mine.

I couldn’t even blink, as if I was a surprised-eyed framed portray.
Her eyelashes flashed in between, her beauty glistening all the while.
I wanted to greet her, say her a few words, gathering a bit of courage.
But I couldn’t utter a sole word; she just passed by with a forlorn smile.

Her Smile Makes My Day

I don’t understand love; it is such a labyrinthine enigma.
I don’t understand heart; it beats drum-like when she is by me.
I don’t understand eyes; it has tears when she is in despair.
I do understand one thing; she’s my world, she’s everything to me.

When I walk by her side, holding gently, her soft hands,
It feels like a magical symphony, played from the heavens.
When she rests her head on my shoulders, I feel heavy;
As if all her pains have deported into my heart and veins.

When out of nowhere that cool blissful breeze blows,
And her silky lock flows behind, hiding my awed semblance.
And when she turns around in shock realizing the mess,
And carefully removes them, to see my magic struck face.

Then when she caresses me, laughing at my stupefied form;
A magic had been spelled upon me by the aroma of her hair;
And when she pulls my ears to release that benumbing spell,
I feel so special, I feel so loved- bringing a sense that life’s fair.

And when she walks away, saying nothing and not even looking,
Just her eyes spilling her hurt; my silly heart shatters fragmented,
For a moment I curse myself a thousand times and run after,
To fetch my love back; to whisper a thousand words of atonement.

She looks down, silent, still unable to let in my countless sorries.
Every attempt to pacify goes in vain, with her eyes still tear-laden.
There comes that little red rose from my back pocket- my savior!
I kneel down raising that scarlet, awaiting the smile that makes my day.

Like the Ship & the Sea

The ship sets sails one fine morning, into the golden yellow waters.
It looked doubly cheerful; and there was passion and exuberance.
After long, the anchors had been raised, screeching out of rust.
And slowly, the ship moved ahead, as the winds aided furtherance.

It danced along with waves, as the sea roared to the marine-beats.
The dolphins leaping up from its womb, like raring shooting stars.
The twitches and the turns in the air; and the plunge back into water.
Everything was so jolly about the ship, like a bird escaping the bars.

Sometimes it floated smoothly, as if taking a sunbath in peace.
Sometimes it pranced onto the waves, as they passionately mate.
Sometimes it struggled to fight, as if stunned by her sudden rage.
Sometimes it rippled on under the moon; as if ball-danced on a date.

There were times it got vexed over her and refused to move ahead.
She wouldn’t give up either; everything paused dead that moment.
No matter how much we would try, they would not see eye to eye.
We would leave it to them to decide, and find their lost love again.

Slowly and steadily, they come into rhythm, breezing ahead again.
As we march onto the unknown ends of this beautiful hidden world.
It again mingles into her realm, and we sail agog wherever she takes.
It is her charm that takes away this ship; it loses itself into her depths.

Sometimes she’s in a playful mood, and she splashes water on its deck.
It joins her in the play and rocks all the unaware innocent lives on ride.
Sliding left and then swinging right, as they jingle along and make love.
The masts struggle to hold upright, and the anchors threaten to strike.

Like the ship and the sea, we all live waiting so long for her to arrive.
Waiting to meet her someday, waiting destiny to unveil her beauty;
And then the magic flows, and we dance along in love and in bliss.
In all moments of passion and tiffs; I’m her ship and she is my sea.
